“There is nothing you could ever do that would change the way God feels about you.” John Burke

When Abraham was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the Almighty God; walk before Me, and be complete!” (Genesis 17:1). The word 'Almighty God' is translated from the Hebrew El Shaddai, and it means the all-powerful one. By introducing Himself as El Shaddai, He was giving Abram a new revelation of His power. For Abram and Sarai these promises seemed impossible and even laughable! Both of them were generally past reasonable child bearing age and they could not imagine any earthly way for God's Word to be fulfilled – yet with God - “Is anything too difficult for the LORD?” (Gen 18:14)

Before this chapter Abram did not know God as El Shaddai, he had never heard that name. But now, for the first time in his life, his faith would be challenged to believe the impossible. He would be required to believe that El Shaddai would make bold promises and keep them! What a faith challenge!

Sunday we will see the promises of God, the humbling of Abram, the changes God makes and again the humbling of Abram (now Abraham!) If God can forgive Abram's faithlessness – He can forgive ours as well – Sunday is about trusting God and a trustworthy God.
