I will NOT forget you!

“I forgot” – hard words to admit because they mean that we not only forgot a promise but we did not value the person to whom the promise was made enough to be important! Life seems to be full of disappointments. Our expectations for life seem to be repeatedly dashed. Plans are made but not fulfilled. Ideas of how our life will go are regularly challenged. In fact, “happily ever after.” rarely if ever happens.

Joseph is in an Egyptian prison because he rightly rejected the seduction of another man’s wife. But she lies and charges him with attempted rape, so he sits in a dungeon with little hope of release. Is he forgotten by God? His family? God uses 2 other prisoners to assure Joseph that there is still a plan for him – even in jail! Joseph could have given in to the despair of disappointment but instead – rose above it to trust the Lord.

Disappointment is a tool God can use to break our pride when we think we might know best – even better than God! We need disappointment in life so that we move our faith to the one who does not disappoint: our Lord Jesus. Don’t be disappointed in the life God has given you to live. Do we think that we know better than God and to tell him how our life is supposed to go?

Sunday we will hear about Joseph but hopefully consider our own lives – plans – expectations and hopes. Don’t waste your life living in disappointment. Come to trust God’s plans for our life, our family, our church – Joseph did – so can you!
