Doing the Right Thing!

Last week was the challenge to Do the Right Thing – this week the brothers and Joseph are tasked with actually Doing the Right Thing! It is one thing to read, discuss or even write about the godly choices in our life but what happens with those tasks are tested? Judah had to make an offer to Jacob that was nothing short of his very life! Jacob had to trust his sons to care for Benjamin as they sought to preserve their entire family. Joseph had to resist a fair temptation to exact revenge on his greedy and jealous brothers – what a mess! In all of this we see the gracious hand of God guiding the passions of men to accomplish the purposes of God. The brothers are reunited and broken of spirit – Joseph is kind and broken as well – Jacob is rewarded for his willingness to send his son by gaining back all his sons!

We will see obedience, faithfulness and sacrifice – the very elements of our own salvation. Judah offers himself and begins a tradition seen in Boaz, David and ultimately Jesus – all of the same Jewish family of Judah. Each of us are challenged in life to Do the Right Thing – Sunday we will see the effects and rewards of Doing the Right Thing!
