Blessings by Adoption

Mar 22, 2020    Mike Burt

Jacob’s closing words in Genesis 45 were “I will see him before I die!” referring to Joseph, his long-lost son. Genesis 46 is all about the move and vocation of Jacob’s family to Goshen and Genesis 47 is how Joseph saves Egypt from the famine still raging in Egypt. Sunday, I move on to Genesis 48 where we have the beautiful story of adoption. Jacob is nearing the end of his yet knows that God is giving him a priceless gift – the return of his son, Joseph. Joseph also brings a great blessing for Jacob – his two sons. Manasseh and Ephraim are brought before Jacob and his response is an incredible picture of God’s love and redemption.

Jacob is delighted to see Joseph, thrilled to meet his grandsons and blesses them beyond imagination. Jacob begins by recounting the promises of Jehovah to his grandfather Abraham and his father Isaac – then passes those on to his favored son Joseph by blessing his grandsons. Not a normal blessing but first of adoption and then a double blessing!

Sunday I will be sharing the joys of this story and relating it to our adoption and blessings in Christ.
