Never Alone!

Trying to be good – that would describe the life of Joseph, but often to no benefit! With his brothers he told the truth of his dream – REJECTED! He wore the coat of his father with honor but his brothers hated him for it – REJECTED! In all this animosity his brothers conspired to kill him but settled on a less violent plan – sell him as a slave. The blessing is that God did not reject him but stayed with him even into Egypt. Instead of slavery Joseph was elevated to a position of trust and responsibility by Potiphar. Enter Potiphar’s wife, a lustful jealous spouse. She began to proposition Joseph as her next palace conquest. Trying to be good still, Joseph declined and even explained how this was to him a sin against her, himself and his God. She was relentless – until Joseph was forced to flee leaving his coat in her hand in his haste. While Joseph had learned to thrive even in rejection, Potiphar’s wife had not – she twisted the story of her sinful lust into an accusation against Joseph. Potiphar had no real choice but to back up his wife and Joseph was in prison for trying to be good! REJECTED! But never alone!

Sunday I will tell this story in greater detail, give the likeness of Joseph to Jesus and offer some Biblical solutions to sin, even when we fail. Don’t despair of trying to be good and don’t give up when we fail – God has strength and remedy for both! No matter what you are not alone – see you Sunday!
