At Home with Jesus - Mark 1:21-34

Mike Burt

“Miracles are ordinary acts done by an extraordinary Savior!”

Sunday will be a single day in the life of the Messiah – daytime as He worships in the Synagogue on the Sabbath and that evening when Sabbath is over back in Peter’s house.  We can hear the Authority of Jesus’ teaching and then witness the Compassion of His healings. Why start in Capernaum? Why as the Savior of the World begin teaching in a common Synagogue instead of the Temple in Jerusalem? When so much could have been done for so many more or before a greater crowd than common folks in a fishing village – why there? Why then? I will take on these and other questions this week – the contrast of Jesus’ Authority while living out His great Compassion – this is the ministry of the Messiah.

People were amazed by His teaching – so should we!

People were drawn by His love and compassion – so should we!

What happens when Authority is blended perfectly with Love – respect! In our world when we fail to acknowledge God’s Authority there is little respect for the Divine. When the world ignores His great love and all that is seen is His Authority there is a loss of respect for the truths of God. Sunday I will try to show how these two companion truths are in balance – in a single day of Jesus’ life – join us!
