Fit bodies - Fat Hearts

Oct 18, 2020    Mike Burt

We all should understand the concept of hunger. You might be hungry right now. I do not know what hunger feels like to others but I can tell you what it feels like to me. What starts out as a mild feeling of discomfort from the stomach turns into a hunger that affects my entire body. If I allow my hunger to go on long enough, I get a headache and experience weakness. My body is screaming to my mind to tell my feet and my hands to get into the kitchen and do something fast!

Thirst operates in the same way. When you are thirsty you can hardly think of anything else. Your mind becomes consumed with needing water to drink. There is nothing better than a cold glass of water when you are truly thirsty. After working outside in a Missouri summer, you do not want anything else to drink besides water. Nothing else will satisfy.

These have become metaphors for a having a strong desire in Jesus’ teaching. Sunday I will explain and illustrate these metaphors and challenge us to be sharing in these desires in a way that goes beyond the hunger and thirst for food or water – yearning for God’s righteousness in our life. See you Sunday!
