Making Peace
John 1:12 “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God”
Christ, the Prince of Peace (Is 9:6), to be King of Peace once sin is put down once and for all - Christ died to reconcile God and people (Rom 5:1), and people with one another (Eph 2:14-18).
In Jesus day, “Peace” or “Shalom” was a common Jewish greeting. It meant more than the absence of conflict; it expressed a desire that the one “greeted will have all the righteousness and goodness God can give. The deepest meaning of the term is ‘God’s highest good to you.’” In addition, it must be noticed that Christ doesn’t say blessed are those who “love peace,” but blessed are “the peacemakers.” Everybody loves the concept of peace, but very few are willing to be active in creating it. It is impossible to have peace without God’s righteousness. Peace without righteousness is just a truce with sin! Sunday we will take a look at true peace – God’s peace – the joy of making peace! In our troubled world some real peace should come as a welcomed relief – See you Sunday!
