Give as you get – Mercy!
“God never asks us to forgive more than we have already been forgiven!”
Mercy is a difficult quality to define – a quality of forgoing and forgiving when judgment or justice seems in order. The parable of the Good Samaritan is a classic example. The wounded man is ignored by the first two travelers and attend to by the Samaritan who could well have avoided the Jewish contact and ‘not gotten involved’ with the whole incident. Exercising mercy the Samaritan offered himself and his resources to one who might well have passed him by! This kind of mercy is the message of Jesus this week. Mercy that is shown inspired additional mercy and helps us recognize the great mercy we have been shown by a loving Father (John 3:16). Sunday I will show you the words from the Old and New Testament and tell you how they were powerful in the Scriptures – then I will move into the 21st century and try to show you how this simple word is still a powerful lever to open even the hardest of hearts. See you Sunday –
