Telling the Truth!
This week, Amos gives some vivid pictures of a loving God who is at the end of His mercy and must now execute judgment. Amos was not a prophet by trade and had not sought this role. God visited him and thrust him into the faces of the Northern Kingdom to deliver these visions. Sunday I will cover the visions of Locust, Fire and a Plumbline. For the obedience of Amos, he was rewarded by being falsely accuses by a ‘prophet’ from Bethel. Established religion had nothing to gain by a national revival – only Amos seemed to care!
The denial of Amos's voice does not alter the truth. The judgment that Amos delivers against Israel cannot be separated from the injustices he names. The same charges and judgment will later be declared in the kingdom of Judah. There they will be met with a similar refusal to address the injustices and similar attempts to silence those prophets will be carried out as they preach to a heartless Southern Kingdom.
Sunday will be clear! God is not vague nor obscure – He is in the light and well known. Men may deny but cannot deter the justice of God nor His judgment. Sunday is about Truth – all the Truth. I hope you and your family can join us for a great time in the Word.
