Lord of the Sabbath - Mark 2:23-28
Be still, and know that I am God! Psa 46:10
Have you ever heard someone refer to Sunday as the Christian Sabbath? What was the Sabbath Day in the 10 Commandments? When did Sabbath begin? Is the Sabbath Day past and now we celebrate Sunday instead? All of these are great questions! I will take them one at a time this Sunday as we look at Mark 2 where Jesus is ‘Lord of the Sabbath’ and He explains His role as Messiah.
How do you know if you are following Jesus in a relationship or just following religious rules and traditions? Is it possible to slip from a genuine, passionate relationship with Jesus to a functional religious tradition? Yes it is! Do some begin to love the activity more that the soul’s experience with worship and God’s Word? Also possible! Is it possible to be a person who is committed to church, the Ten Commandments, and being nice and miss Jesus completely? Absolutely. Sunday I will try to share how that is possible and why it is necessary to focus on Jesus. We are going through these verses of Mark and we try to learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus and what it does not mean. We are learning about who we are following and how following Jesus impacts our daily lives. A premise I will explore is that I believe it is possible to show our love for God by what we do and what we do not do.
See you this Sunday,
Pastor Mike
