Herod Seeking Christ - Matthew 2

Dec 15, 2024    Mike Burt

“If we could condense all the truths of Christmas into only three words, these would be the words: 'God with us.'” John MacArthur

We have so many wonderful examples of kindness and giving at Christmas that it is hard to tell them all. We also have a few stories of the antitypes of Christmas like Scrooge and the Grinch. In the Dickens tale we meet Ebenezer Scrooge who denied Christmas and the Grinch who tried to steal Christmas – but none so notorious as the King who tried to kill Christmas – Herod. Men have tried before to eliminate the promises of God like the Assyrians and Babylonians conquering Israel and Judah. Again, when Haman tried and failed in the book of Esther. The Herod plot was much simpler – find the Messiah and eliminate Him. Defeated by the Wise Men, Herod turned to brutality by wiping out a cluster of baby boys around the questions of the Wise Men. Sunday you will meet one of the most messed up families you have every heard about – The Herodians. You will also hear that God’s goodness is greater than man’s most evil works.

Come for our third week of “Seeking Christ” as we meet Herod the Great or as I like to call him, Herod the Terrible!

See you Sunday,

Pastor Mike
