Shepherds Seeking Christ - Luke 2:8-20
“Christmas is not about what we can sell – it is what we can tell!”
I knew a teacher who would often share that, “It is easy if you know how.” Finding the Messiah would be easy if we had a guide. The Wise Men had a Star, the Jews had the Prophets, Herod even had his scribes – what about the common folk? God sent just such a messenger when the angel showed up on Christmas Eve just outside of Bethlehem – to shepherds! The Angel gave signs and searching instructions – they led right to the Messiah – in a stable and laying in a manger.
To me, there has never been such a picture of Heavenly Humility – The Creator in a Crib.
Sunday we will visit the shepherds outside of Bethlehem and follow them into the village and all the way to the stable. This is a story of unlikely men chosen to seek a King in an unlikely spot. The lessons of the Shepherds are many and I will share a few this Sunday. The call to discipleship began with the birth announcement – Come and See then Go and Tell.
See you Sunday for our last worship time together before Christmas –
