Peace & Expectations

Peace – an elusive goal in the best of times and now it seems ever so distant! Everyone wants peace. From politics to education to homemakers – where is our daily peace? It seems the pandemic has given us pandemonium! I love Matthew Henry’s quote on peace:
“Peace is such a precious jewel that I would give anything for it but truth.”

Sunday I will begin with the troubles of Zacharias and his loss of peace and move through some well-known passages about God’s promises of true peace. Most of us, if we're honest with ourselves, have to admit that we experience more stress than peace. Join me this second Advent Sunday for a survey of God’s peace. Our day is like Jeremiah's, in that people cry "Peace, peace, when there is no peace" (Jer. 6:14).

As Billy Graham said:
“Christ alone can bring lasting peace - peace with God - peace among men and nations - and peace within our hearts.”
