A New Way to See - Mark 12:28-34

Oct 19, 2025    David Wells

This Sunday, we’ll look at an interesting conversation Jesus had with a scribe. Unlike many who questioned Him, this man’s question was sincere — not like the trick question from the Sadducees that Pastor Denis walked us through last week. His question was simple but profound: Of all the commandments in the Old Testament, which is the most important?

Jesus’ answer gives us what we now call the Great Commandment: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength — and love your neighbor as yourself.

So simple. So clear.

And yet… so hard — impossible apart from God’s help.

As we unpack this passage together, I’ll suggest that the Great Commandment isn’t just another rule to follow (after all, Jesus is quoting two commands they already knew) — it’s a new way to see.

I’d really appreciate your prayers as we prepare for Sunday — that the Holy Spirit would open our eyes to see more deeply what it means to love God and love others as Jesus taught.
