Your Will Be Done! - Mark 14:27-42

Mike Burt

“Prayer does not fit us for the greater work; prayer is the greater work.”  Oswald Chambers

I have often wished to be able to pray like Jesus – facing my worst day while giving everything to God in trust.  Instead of wasting minutes in panic or worry – give those minutes to the Father in conversation.  Those are the wishes of a person in peace – they seem to elude me in moments of uncertainty and fear.  Jesus met with the Disciples after the Last supper as they were returning to Bethany and they paused in the Garden of Gethsemane.  Jesus had only the one request – ‘watch’ with Me.

“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted, and He saves those who spirits have been crushed.” Psalm 34:18

Three times they failed to even stay awake while Jesus poured out His heart to the Father.  Each time Jesus returns He found them asleep and weak.  Sunday will be a time to revisit the imperative of prayer – the priority of prayer – the empowerment of prayer!  My favorite book on prayer is a collection by E.M. Bounds but I will intentionally not use him in quotes this week – instead I would encourage you to seek him out for some devotional reading and set aside some real time for prayer – we will join Jesus and the slumbering Disciples in the Garden Sunday.  I say to you the words of Jesus – “keep watching and praying that you may not come into temptation!”

See you Sunday, Pastor Mike
