Serve or Be Served? - Mark 10:31-45

“Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer – Cost of Discipleship

Celebration Sunday - what better time for us to come to this most pivotal passage. We are at a pinnacle moment in Mark’s Gospel – the purpose of the ministry and life of Jesus is explained to the Disciples for the third time. Things have been building steadily for ten chapters as Jesus sets his trek towards Jerusalem. The Disciples have seen it all – the sick cured – the demons cast out – the dead raised – the wealthy sent away – the religious befuddled.  Yet they are still some perplexed – what is this dying prediction?  If the Kingdom is coming as Jesus says then James and John are seeking a chair up front – much to the other disciples irritation.  Join me on this road to Jerusalem and all the events that come with it.  This road to Jerusalem would finish with shame, yet it would be that shame which would be the Glory of God and the ultimate display of God’s power and Love in a single moment. It is all about the Cross!

Sunday we will hear from Jesus the only question that really matters: “What do you want Me to do for you?”

See you Sunday!
