Dual Citizenship - Mark 12:13-17
How do we live in a world that often does not acknowledge a Creator? A world that does not honor God or even see faith as necessary to life? Do we adapt to the circumstances around us or worse – adopt the practices of our world as normal? How can we be in this world but not of this world? That was the expressed desire of Jesus in John 17:14,15. We do belong here but we do not belong here for long!
"If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world!” C.S. Lewis
My best explanation is that we hold dual citizenship as believers – a temporary citizenship on this earth (for me an American passport) but I also hold a citizenship in Heaven – grace by faith in Christ alone. Sunday we will listen in to Jesus as the Pharisees and Herodians (an odd pairing to be sure!) try to trap Jesus in a political/religious question. Jesus deftly sidesteps the trap and returns the question that ends up condemning both groups on their own convictions. What a great story of the brilliance of Jesus – don’t miss this one! See you Sunday,
Pastor Mike
