Storm Chasing - Mark 4:35-41

“Faith may not extinguish the fire but it will take us through the fire!”

Everyone likes ‘smooth sailing’ but reality is sometimes stormy!  For storms I advocate a ‘Storm Theology’ that is demonstrated in the Gospels by encounters like this Sunday.  What do we do when Jesus sends us ‘to the other side’?  What do we do when sudden storms rise up?  What is our cry to God?  Do we accuse Him of being asleep at the tiller?  Do we trust Him to do what is best – even in the blowing wind and driving rain?  No captain is tested in the calm waters of the sea – we know the best of any leader when faced with the difficult.  Just such a day came up with the disciples in Mark 4.  After some homey stories of growing seeds and gentle farming the greatness of the Messiah is tested by a ‘fierce gale’ dropping suddenly on the disciples in the Sea of Galilee.  Sunday I will try to explain how God’s trials build trust.  This week watch for folks who may be in the storms of life – invite them to hear how we can trust God in the storm and how to grow after the storm.  See you Sunday –
