Jacob's Ladder

Small things – that's what God often uses! We watch for lightning and thunder and God whispers His will. We expect a trumpet blast announcing His plans and God uses a tinkling bell. We wish for a prophet to speak into our lives while God is gently guiding subtle pieces around us like daily devotions or weekly sermons or a thought shared in our small group. At Bethel, Jacob finds God and takes the rock as a souvenir! While traveling Judah Luz Jacob rests and God visits him in a dream. Not a likely place but a significant place for sure! Abraham had built an altar near here and now Jacob finds rest and relief in the same place. So challenging was this encounter the Jacob carries the stone with him from his camp and designates that the pillow become a pillar – a monument to Jehovah's promises. It is here that Luz is renamed the city of Bethel (house of God) and is a spot of revival for Jacob now and years to come.

Sunday we will see what it means to have access to God, hear from God and follow God. Jacob had both fear and reverence in the presence of God – very appropriate!

Reverence is fear of a trusted object!

Come and worship – in fear – be in awe as we go up and down Jacob's Ladder.
